# AMS to Repay €135 Million to 250,000 Unemployed

The **Austrian Administrative Court** has ruled that the **Arbeitsmarktservice** (AMS) must repay approximately 135 million euros to 250,000 unemployed individuals. This decision follows a calculation error involving the deduction of insurance contributions.

A woman from **Linz** triggered the ruling after noticing her daily benefit of 21.09 euros was incorrectly reduced. Despite earning below the 1,828 euro threshold for insurance exemptions, the AMS had applied a flat three percent deduction to her benefits.

Eligible citizens will receive an average of 540 euros covering a three-year period. The **Austrian government** is currently finalizing the legal framework to ensure the AMS can automatically process and issue these payments without requiring applications.
