Animal Contact Causes Major ÖBB Route Disruption

A cable fire between Gramatneusiedl and Bruck an der Leitha has suspended long-distance train services to Hungary through Sunday evening.

An overhead line fault caused by an animal contact has led to a route interruption between Gramatneusiedl and Bruck an der Leitha in eastern Lower Austria. The ÖBB reported the incident on Saturday, noting that a cable fire caused massive infrastructure damage.

No trains will run in the affected section until the evening of Sunday, October 4. Long-distance services, including Railjet and Eurocity trains, are currently suspended between Vienna Main Station or Vienna Westbahnhof and the Hegyeshalom border crossing.

A rail replacement bus service is now active between Gramatneusiedl and Bruck an der Leitha. Long-distance passengers must use local trains and transfer to buses, with repair work expected to last through Sunday. Travelers should expect longer travel times.
