Austria Car Registrations Rise 12.1% in 2026

New passenger car registrations in Austria reached 241,108 units through September as alternatively powered vehicles claim a 66.8% share.

Austria's automotive market saw 241,108 new passenger car registrations from January to September 2026, a 12.1% increase over 2025. Total motor vehicle registrations reached 329,109. In September alone, 28,968 new passenger cars were registered in the country.

Alternatively powered vehicles now dominate the market with a 66.8% share, totaling 161,151 units. Electric car registrations surged 36.9% to 63,172, while benzin-hybrids rose 24.8% to 88,565. Conversely, diesel and benzin registrations fell by 13.9% and 4.8%.

VW remains the top brand with a 13.2% market share, followed by Skoda and BMW. Notably, BYD registrations jumped 68.2%, while BMW led the electric segment with a 10.1% share. The shift continues as diesel-hybrid registrations dropped 18.4% during the period.
