# Austria Fog-Related Road Accidents Hit 20-Year High

**Austria** recorded 730 fog-related accidents involving personal injury in 2025, the highest figure in at least 20 years. According to an **ÖAMTC** press release issued Thursday, October 29, 2026, data from **Statistik Austria** confirms 17 people died in these crashes.

**Lower Austria** led with 219 accidents, more than double its 2024 total. Upper Austria saw 168 cases, while Styria and Burgenland also doubled their figures to 135 and 23 respectively. **Vienna**'s 46 accidents were four times higher than the previous year's count.

While Salzburg, Vorarlberg, and Tirol saw decreases, young drivers aged 20 to 29 were involved in approximately 20 percent of all injury-related fog accidents. This surge in fatalities and incidents highlights a significant shift in national road safety data.
