The **Austrian federal government** reached an agreement in October 2026 to reform social assistance, effective January 1, 2027. The amended **Social Assistance Basic Act** establishes a net basic amount of 1,230 euros for single individuals across the country. The reform introduces uniform rates for the first child and those from the fifth child onward, with the latter amount more than halved. States retain flexibility for the second through fourth child, while stricter rules now target employable **migrants**. This policy shift impacts 8,915 large families, including 1,726 couples with five or more children receiving aid in 2024.
