Austria saw a significant rise in newly issued driver's licenses in 2025, marking the third consecutive year of growth. A total of 168,437 licenses were issued, a six percent increase from 2024 and the highest volume recorded in the country since 2013.
Statistik Austria Director General Manuela Lenk reported 181,736 total authorizations. Class B licenses rose eight percent, while L17 permits for 17-year-olds hit a record 33,300. Motorcycle licenses also peaked at 25,712, though bus permits fell 24 percent.
The data reveals shifting mobility trends, with 35 percent of all Austrian 17-year-olds now holding L17 licenses. Regional participation varies greatly, peaking at 56 percent in Burgenland compared to just nine percent of the same age group living in Vienna.
