Austria's inflation rate rose to 3.2 percent in August 2026, up from 2.8 percent in July. Statistics Austria Director General Manuela Lenk reported the increase as fuel prices surged, with gasoline hitting 1.963 euros and diesel reaching 2.236 euros on Sept 15.
A fuel price brake currently reduces the mineral oil tax by 1.9 cents per liter through September. Meanwhile, Germany's inflation hit 2.9 percent, with gasoline at 2.30 euros. Economic Affairs Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer notes Austria ranks 19th in the EU.
The Eurozone inflation rate reached 3.3 percent in August, exceeding the ECB target of 2.0 percent. In response, the European Central Bank raised key interest rates by 0.25 percentage points, bringing the bank deposit rate to 2.5 percent as oil stays high.
