Austria's inflation rate rose to 3.6 percent in September 2026, up from 3.2 percent in August, according to a flash estimate by Statistics Austria. Director General Manuela Lenk noted that higher fuel and heating oil prices drove this 0.4 percentage point increase.
Energy prices surged 14.5 percent year-on-year in September, following a 9.9 percent rise in August. While services accounted for three-quarters of August inflation, long-term data shows total inflation in Austria has reached 31 percent since the year 2020.
Since spring 2021, wages and salaries have driven 61 percent of Austrian price pressure, compared to 45 percent in the Eurozone. Raiffeisen Research economist Matthias Reith observes that corporate profits influenced Austrian price increases by only 14 percent.
