Austria Secures 100,000 Extra Flu Vaccine Doses

The Austrian Ministry of Health has acquired additional Flucelvax doses to address supply delays and prepare for an early influenza wave.

The Austrian Ministry of Health has secured 100,000 additional doses of the Flucelvax influenza vaccine on the international market. As of Friday, October 9, 2026, the supply is being transported by truck, with deliveries scheduled to begin next week.

These doses are expected to reach pediatricians and gynecologists by late October. This move follows a delay for 868,000 Influvac doses now expected in November. Flucelvax is cell-culture based and EU-approved for adults and children aged six months and up.

The Influenza Reference Center warns of an early flu wave this season. On Friday, the Court of Audit released a report on free vaccination programs, advising State Secretary Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig to prioritize vulnerable groups amid supply bottlenecks.
