Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr announced a new pilot project for a six-year primary school starting in autumn 2027. The initiative will launch at five locations across three federal states, extending the current four-year primary school model.
Schools must apply by October 16 with consent from parents and teachers. The model features a Secondary I curriculum taught by subject teachers, while primary teachers remain as class heads. It also introduces a new compulsory Personality Development subject.
The trial aims to bridge the gap between primary and secondary education through close institutional cooperation. Students are guaranteed placement in the third grade of a secondary school and will receive certificates with numerical grades after six years.
