**Austria**'s seasonal winter tire mandate begins November 1 and runs through April 15. During this period, drivers must use winter tires when roads are covered in snow, slush, or ice. Mopeds, motorcycles, and emergency service vehicles are exempt from this rule.

Winter tires must feature **M+S markings** or a snowflake symbol with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm. Trucks and buses face stricter requirements, needing winter tires on at least one drive axle regardless of weather, while also carrying mandatory **snow chains**.

For safety, the **ADAC** recommends using high-quality jacks and **torque wrenches** during installation. Ensure screw threads remain unlubricated and free of rust. Drivers must recheck wheel bolt torque after 50 kilometers to ensure continued vehicle stability.
