# Austrian Household Energy Prices Hit Record High

Household energy prices reached a record high in September 2026, rising 3.9 percent from August. The **Austrian Energy Agency** reports a 15.1 percent year-on-year increase, significantly outpacing the general inflation rate of 3.6 percent recorded for the month.

**Heating oil** surged 10.6 percent monthly and 63.1 percent annually. Diesel and super gasoline rose 42.3 and 25.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. **Wood pellets** jumped 34.5 percent from 2025, while **electricity** prices dropped 9.3 percent over the same period.

Energy expert **Lukas Zwieb** notes these shifts as gas and district heating also saw monthly gains. While firewood prices dipped 0.3 percent from August, they remain 4.0 percent higher than last year, contributing to the overall record costs for households.
