Statistik Austria reports that 407,485 students enrolled at Austrian higher education institutions for the 2025/26 winter semester, a 1.9% increase. Public universities grew by 2.1%, while universities of applied sciences saw a 6.5% rise in regular students.
Degree completions reached 62,850 in 2024/25, up 3.9% from the previous year. Women earned 57% of these degrees. Master's programs at teacher training colleges surged by 14.6%, while bachelor's programs at applied science universities grew by 7.3% this year.
Public universities awarded 53% of the 34,411 bachelor's degrees and 94% of the 2,567 doctoral degrees. These figures highlight a steady expansion across Austria's academic sectors, with significant growth in specialized master's and applied science tracks.
