Babler Convenes Urgent SPÖ Leadership Meeting

SPÖ leader Andreas Babler met with his government team on Wednesday to stabilize the party amid internal challenges to his leadership.

SPÖ leader Andreas Babler convened an urgent meeting with his government team at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Löwelstraße. The invitation was issued just one day prior, following reports that a majority of state leaders consider him unsuitable to lead the party.

During the leadership crisis, Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer denied plans to take over. While Gerhard Zeiler expressed availability to serve as Vice Chancellor and party leader, he currently lacks a majority of support within the internal SPÖ ranks.

Federal Managing Director Klaus Seltenheim confirmed on oe24.TV that Babler will remain Vice Chancellor and party leader through January. The meeting aims to stabilize the party as leadership questions persist among top officials ahead of the election.
