Caritas Vienna Launches Winter Emergency Program

Caritas Vienna activates 24/7 hotlines and expanded street work to provide shelter and survival aid for the homeless this winter season.

Caritas Vienna officially launches its winter emergency aid program on October 28, as announced by Director Klaus Schwertner. The initiative activates 24/7 cold weather telephone lines and increases street work services to support the city's homeless population.

The 01/480 4553 hotline operates daily to assist those in need. Last winter, the service received over 15,500 calls, helping 490 acutely homeless individuals find shelter. Caritas and Fonds Soziales Wien have added 70 new spots across two specific locations.

Street work teams led by Susanne Peter will distribute sleeping bags, warm clothing, and hot drinks. With 1,890 year-round beds and additional day centers, this expanded winter network provides essential survival resources during the dangerous cold season.
