In 2025, 66,930 people left the Roman Catholic Church in Austria, a decrease from 71,531 in 2024 and 85,163 in 2023. Total membership fell to 4.49 million by year-end. While baptisms and weddings declined, 5,449 people were readmitted or newly admitted in 2025.
The church reported 3,171 active priests in 2025, down from 3,269 the previous year. Despite falling membership, revenue from church contributions rose to 552.2 million euros. New for 2025, members can now earmark contributions for specific local projects.
Financially, the ten dioceses recorded a 16.6 million euro surplus despite 789.7 million euros in total expenditures. Over 492 million euros supported parishes and pastoral tasks. The data reflects shifting engagement as funerals rose while attendance fell.
