> A University of Graz study reveals climate-related damages in Austria averaged 3.7 billion euros per year between 2017 and 2024.

Climate and weather-related events in **Austria** caused annual damages between 1.9 and 6.1 billion euros from 2017 to 2024. The COIN 2.0 study, led by the **University of Graz**, found that average annual costs including heat-related deaths totaled 3.7 billion euros.

The research utilized data from the **Disaster Fund**, insurance companies, and national databases. Study leader **Birgit Bednar-Friedl** and **Markus Leitner** noted that direct damages to buildings, infrastructure, and agriculture averaged one billion euros annually.

The study indicates that climate-related damages are increasing, mirroring a pan-European trend. While significant, these figures exclude indirect costs like lost winter tourism, productivity losses during heatwaves, and volunteer fire brigade personnel costs.
