> A Vienna court has reinstated a student expelled for wearing Meta smart glasses, ruling that no concrete misconduct was proven.

A student at a Viennese gymnasium has been reinstated after a court overturned their expulsion for wearing [Meta](<https://austriareport.com/entity/meta-platforms-q380>) smart glasses. The student began wearing the device, which features a camera and AI assistant, in December 2025 despite a school-wide ban.

Following four suspensions between March and June, the **Board of Education** excluded the student. However, the [Federal Administrative Court](<https://austriareport.com/entity/supreme-administrative-court-of-austria-q874053>) ruled on August 3 that no concrete misconduct, such as unauthorized recording, was proven to justify the permanent ban.

Education Minister [Christoph Wiederkehr](<https://austriareport.com/entity/christoph-wiederkehr-q22570073>) opposes unconsented recording as the Ministry of Education considers a broader ban on smart glasses. The Board of Education is now filing an extraordinary revision to challenge the court's decision on the matter.
