Deadly Flash Floods Strike Southern Europe

Severe storms claim lives in Spain and Greece as a 102-year-old woman dies in Albacete following record rainfall and flash flooding.

Severe storms and flash floods hit Southern Europe, causing a tragedy in Madrigueras, Albacete. On Friday, the town saw 150 liters of rain per square meter, washing away cars and flooding homes. A 102-year-old woman died after water rose to one meter in her house.

Emergency services rescued 90 residents as the regional government activated a crisis plan. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez shared condolences online, while President Emiliano García-Page visited the site Saturday. The Guardia Civil is now assisting with cleanup.

The extreme weather also claimed two lives on Crete. While orange warnings for hail hit Valencia and the Balearics, a red alert was issued for Tarragona. Forecasters now warn of a high-altitude low, or DANA, approaching the western peninsula this Sunday.
