> Experts share efficiency tips and details on new federal grants as household energy prices surge by over 100 percent this October.

Energy costs in October 2026 have surged by over 100 percent compared to last year, prompting experts to share efficiency tips. Space heating accounts for 70 percent of household energy use, making maintenance like cleaning and bleeding **radiators** essential.

Homeowners can reduce energy costs by 15 percent by bleeding radiators to remove air layers. **Austria Email AG** recommends keeping furniture 30 centimeters away and maintaining water pressure between 1 and 1.5 bar, as visible on the heating system manometer.

Starting November 2, 2026, federal subsidies are available for replacing fossil heating systems with **heat pumps** or **wood central heating**. These grants cover up to 30 percent of costs, with a maximum of 20,000 euros for comprehensive **klimaaktiv** renovations.
