# EU Gas Storage Misses Targets as Winter Begins

Energy Minister **Katherina Reiche** ordered state-owned **Sefe** to increase reserves by mid-December to address the shortfall. Current market prices reflect the strain, with short-term gas at the **EEX** hub costing 105 euros and Dutch TTF futures exceeding 100 euros.

The deficit is critical as storage facilities typically supply one third of winter demand. While Italy spent 300 million euros to secure its supply, experts like Claudia Kemfert and Walter Boltz monitor the situation as the heating season begins in earnest.
