Alfred Stern, the former CEO of OMV, is set to join the Canadian energy firm Irving Oil on October 1. Stern, who left OMV at the end of August, will officially take over as President and CEO on November 1, succeeding Jeff Matthews, who is retiring in 2026.
Irving Oil, a family-owned company founded in 1924, operates Canada's largest refinery and Ireland's only refinery. With a capacity of nearly 400,000 barrels per day and 1,000 gas stations, the firm employs 3,000 people under Lead Director Maureen Kempston Darkes.
Stern brings 30 years of energy experience to the unlisted firm, which recently lost founder Arthur L. Irving. While Emma Delaney now leads OMV, Stern maintains his roles on the boards of Bayer AG and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. during this transition.
