Trenitalia, the Italian state railway group FS, announced new Frecciarossa high-speed connections linking Italy with Germany and Austria starting in summer 2027. Presented at Berlin's InnoTrans fair, the project connects Milan and Rome to Munich via Innsbruck.
General Director Simone Gorini confirmed that initial tests for the Munich-Italy route have already begun. The Frecciarossa, capable of 400 km/h, is currently undergoing trials in Austria and on German tracks between Nuremberg, Ingolstadt, Erfurt, and Leipzig.
The Milan to Munich trip will take under seven hours, significantly improving European rail travel. Partners Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB aim to expand this network further by 2028, with plans to extend the high-speed service to both Naples and Berlin for travelers.
