# Greenpeace Reports Record Low Groundwater Levels

**Greenpeace** released a groundwater data evaluation on Monday, October 19, 2026, revealing that approximately half of the measured sites hit new record lows for mid-October. Across the network, 36 out of 227 water levels reached their lowest points ever recorded.

In **Styria**, nine stations including Kroisbach and Admont hit all-time lows. **Vorarlberg** saw 19 of 25 sites at mid-October records, with some in Feldkirch hitting absolute lows. **Salzburg** reported four all-time lows, while **Carinthia** saw mid-October record lows.

Greenpeace is now demanding the rapid implementation of a federal water extraction register. This proposed system would require industrial large-scale consumers to report their water consumption to better manage the declining groundwater levels identified.
