Greens File Motion Against Health Insurance Fees

The Green Party urges the Austrian National Council to reject proposed cost-sharing measures and protect private doctor reimbursements.

The Green Party has filed an urgent motion titled 'Being sick must not become a luxury' with the Austrian National Council. This action follows a leaked strategy paper from the employer side of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund proposing new cost-sharing.

The proposal suggests tiered fees for doctor visits for 7.6 million insured citizens and ending private doctor reimbursements. It also seeks higher contributions for part-time workers. This follows recent austerity measures approved by Minister Korinna Schumann.

The motion demands the government reject new deductibles and retain private doctor reimbursements. It further calls for a year-end plan to close supply gaps and shorten waiting times, addressing recent fee hikes and the removal of sick pay family supplements.
