# IHS Chief Urges AMS to Support Employed Job Seekers

September 10, 2026 at 12:31 PM

> Holger Bonin proposes that the Public Employment Service actively assist workers in finding better roles to boost economic productivity.

Holger Bonin, head of the Institute for Advanced Studies (**IHS**), is calling for the Public Employment Service (AMS) to actively support employed individuals in their job searches. He proposes that the AMS send an annual newsletter with suitable job options.

Bonin argues that the labor force is shrinking as high-birth-rate cohorts retire, making increased productivity essential. He believes the state should provide information on better job opportunities and improve tax considerations for professional moving costs.

While AI can handle routine tasks and help older workers stay productive, Bonin notes that staying in one profession until retirement is outdated. He views increased competition for workers as positive and does not expect AI to cause an employment collapse.
