Lower Austria Unveils Tourism Strategy 2030+

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner launches a plan to digitize tourism, add high-end beds, and attract more international visitors by 2030.

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner unveiled the Tourism Strategy 2030+ for Lower Austria on October 6, 2026. The plan aims to reduce bureaucracy, enhance high-quality offerings, and attract international guests to a sector generating two billion euros annually.

The initiative includes automating guest registration and tax billing, with a pilot in 2028 and nationwide rollout by 2029. To boost capacity, the NÖBEG investment model will now cover 50 percent of costs to add 500 high-category beds over five years.

Lower Austria seeks to become a year-round destination, targeting 100,000 more overnight stays from the Czech Republic and Slovakia by 2030. High-quality accommodations like castles will be marketed under the 'Selected Stays' brand to drive growth.
