Magnitude 3.1 Earthquake Strikes Near Innsbruck

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake hit Sistrans on Friday morning, marking the latest in a series of seismic events across the Tyrol region.

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck near Sistrans, located southeast of Innsbruck, at 6:46 AM on Friday, October 9, 2026. According to GeoSphere Austria, the morning tremors were felt by many residents across the region, though no building damage was reported.

This seismic event follows a magnitude 3.7 earthquake that hit near Hall in Tirol on Wednesday night, October 7, which was followed by a 1.9 magnitude aftershock eight minutes later. A 3.8 magnitude quake also occurred southeast of Innsbruck in late September.

The recent activity marks a period of increased seismic frequency in the Innsbruck and Hall areas. Multiple earthquakes have been recorded over the past week and a half, keeping local authorities on alert despite the lack of structural damage to the area.
