MedUni Vienna Opens Two Major Research Centers

MedUni Campus AKH launches the Center for Translational Medicine and the Eric Kandel Institute to advance precision medicine and research.

MedUni Campus AKH officially opened two new research centers: the Center for Translational Medicine and the Eric Kandel Institute – Center for Precision Medicine. Rector Markus Müller, Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner, and Mayor Michael Ludwig attended the event.

The 14,000-square-meter Center for Translational Medicine cost 120 million euros, housing labs and the Eugene Braunwald Auditorium. The 90-million-euro Eric Kandel Institute spans 6,100 square meters for 200 researchers focused on genomics and bioinformatics.

Connected to the AKH by bridges, these facilities represent a major joint investment by the federal government and Vienna. The precision medicine center honors Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, a Vienna native who fled in 1939, with a statue at the new entrance.
