# MedUni Vienna Opens Two Major Research Centers

Rector [Markus Müller](<https://austriareport.com/entity/markus-muller-physician-q1334898>), Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner, and Mayor [Michael Ludwig](<https://austriareport.com/entity/michael-ludwig-q1560091>) attended the event.

The 14,000-square-meter Center for Translational Medicine cost 120 million euros, housing labs and the Eugene Braunwald Auditorium. The 90-million-euro Eric Kandel Institute spans 6,100 square meters for 200 researchers focused on genomics and bioinformatics.

Connected to the AKH by bridges, these facilities represent a major joint investment by the federal government and Vienna. The precision medicine center honors Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, a Vienna native who fled in 1939, with a statue at the new entrance.
