# Ministry Adjusts Deficit Forecast to 4.1 Percent

The [Ministry of Finance](<https://austriareport.com/entity/ministry-of-finance-austria-q877814>) has adjusted its deficit forecast for the current year to 4.1 percent of gross domestic product, totaling 21.4 billion euros. This update follows an analysis of federal and state figures from the first eight months of the year.

Minister of Finance [Markus Marterbauer](<https://austriareport.com/entity/markus-marterbauer-q15437820>) (SPÖ) and State Secretary **Barbara Eibinger-Miedl** (ÖVP) noted the previous forecast was 4.2 percent. The current deficit includes 3.1 percent for federal and social security, plus 1.0 percent for states and municipalities.

This revision follows more optimistic projections from the **Fiscal Council**, [Wifo](<https://austriareport.com/entity/austrian-institute-of-economic-research-q306647>), and IHS. Looking ahead, the national debt is projected to reach 440.3 billion euros by 2026, representing approximately 82.4 percent of the nation's total gross domestic product.
