On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, members of Obersteirische Molkerei voted in Kobenz to integrate their dairy division into Berglandmilch. The merger received overwhelming support, with 92 percent of voters, or 714 out of 791 eligible participants, in favor.
Managing Director Michael Riegler and Chairman Jakob Karner oversee the cooperative, which includes 2,800 members and 1,200 Styrian milk suppliers. The entity employs 664 people and generates nearly 400 million in turnover, but requires regulatory approval.
Berglandmilch is Austria's dairy market leader, processing 1.3 billion kilograms of milk annually. The firm owns Schärdinger, Latella, and Jogurella, and previously integrated Stainzer-Milch in 2011. This move further consolidates the national dairy sector.
