Seniorenbund President Ingrid Korosec reports that 27 percent of the 36 billion euros in the state pension pot are actually social, health, or family benefits. This includes 1.3 billion for minimum pensions and 1.8 billion for active employee rehabilitation.
The Seniorenbund calculates statutory old-age pensions at 14.2 billion euros, noting pure pension costs are one-fifth of federal spending. Meanwhile, Pensionistenverband President Birgit Gerstorfer plans a nationwide tour to discuss the current system.
Projections from the European Commission show public pension spending peaking at 15.1 percent by 2032 before dropping to 14 percent by 2070. Historically, federal subsidies have only exceeded the agreed one-third cost threshold twice since the 1940s.
