Styria Aims to Become EU Humanoid Robotics Hub

AT Styria leads a cross-border consortium seeking 18 million euros to test humanoid robots in industrial production and SME operations.

The automation cluster AT Styria has formed a consortium with partners from Austria, Italy, and Slovenia to establish Styria as a European test region for humanoid robotics. The group is seeking 18 million euros in EU funding to support the initiative.

The project features three industrial pilots testing humanoid robots in real production settings. These include machine operation, autonomous material transport between warehouses, and AI-supported quality control, inspection, and maintenance tasks.

Targeting small and medium-sized enterprises, the project aims to modernize the sector where 44,000 people work. A funding decision is expected in summer 2027, with a potential start for the consortium, including Joanneum Research, in early 2028.
