Tyrolean Official Resigns After Oktoberfest Slur

An Austrian People's Party official stepped down after a viral video showed him making racist remarks to a Black creator in Munich.

A Tyrolean farmer and district-level official for the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has resigned following a racist incident at the Munich Oktoberfest. The official confirmed his departure to broadcaster BR24 after a video of the confrontation went viral.

The victim, a Black digital creator, filmed the official stating that the creator was not at home because only white Germans live there. The official later apologized via the Tiroler Tageszeitung, blaming excessive alcohol for his unacceptable behavior.

ÖVP district chair Cornelia Hagele, SPÖ club chair Elisabeth Fleischanderl, and Green club chair Gebi Mair denounced the remarks. The Association of Tyrolean Vegetable Farmers also condemned the statements, which the official admits do not reflect his values.
