The University of Vienna has secured the 95th spot in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2027, leading the Austrian entries. Other top national institutions include the Medical University of Vienna at 180th and Medical University of Graz at 221st.
The 2027 report evaluated 2,297 universities across 131 countries using five key criteria: teaching, research quality, international outlook, industry income, and research environment. Oxford remains first for the eleventh year, followed by MIT in second place.
Global shifts show Asian representation in the top 200 rising to 40 schools, while European presence dropped to 85. Despite some institutions like Zurich withdrawing data, the THE ranking remains a primary global benchmark for academic excellence since 2004.
