Vienna Announces Major 2027 Social Sector Cuts

The Vienna city government plans to cut the Fonds Soziales Wien budget by at least three percent, sparking warnings of job and service losses.

The Vienna city government has announced significant budget cuts for the social sector scheduled for 2027. These savings specifically target the Fonds Soziales Wien, with planned reductions amounting to at least three percent, or a three-digit million sum.

The Wien bleibt anders alliance, led by spokesperson Robert Mittermair, warns that every 20th job and consultation hour is now at risk. This follows years where subsidies were increased below inflation while personnel and material costs rose by three percent.

To preserve the quality of the social network, the alliance is calling for structural reforms through direct dialogue. They argue that current funding levels fail to account for rising operational costs, threatening the stability of essential city services.
