# Vienna Church Resignations Rise Amid Online Scam November 4, 2026 at 02:00 PM > Over 74,000 members have left the Vienna Catholic Church since 2021 as officials warn of a costly third-party resignation website scam. The **Roman Catholic Church** in **Vienna** has lost 74,689 members through resignations, contributing to 386,821 departures across **Austria** since 2021. Recent data shows 9,992 exits in 2025, while 8,294 people have already resigned in 2026, including 1,009 in October. The **Magistrate of Vienna** is warning of a scam involving kirchenbeitrag.com, a **Newark**-based site charging 89.90 Euro to transmit resignation forms. Over 100 people were targeted in early October. Total costs via the site can exceed 100 Euro for users unaware. Official church resignation via ID Austria is free, while district office transcripts cost only 2.10 Euro. Although the site's imprint admits it is not an authority and direct filing is possible, it falsely claims authorities charge 23.10 Euro for confirmation.
