> The Fonds Soziales Wien adds 1,000 shelter spots and new facilities to protect vulnerable residents during the upcoming cold season.

**Vienna** has expanded its support for homeless individuals ahead of the cold season. The **Fonds Soziales Wien** (FSW) winter package provides 1,000 additional spots for individuals and couples, plus space for 38 families, with 24-hour shelters and warming centers.

The FSW coordinates this effort with partners like **Caritas** and the Red Cross. A new facility in Floridsdorf, operated by FSW Obdach, offers 180 spots. Notably, female usage has risen to one-sixth, leading to dedicated women-only spaces and shelters.

City Councilor **Peter Hacker** and FSW Director **Susanne Winkler** oversee these services, which cost 166 million euros last year. With 13,260 people using aid in 2025, these seasonal additions supplement 4,630 year-round spots to ensure safety during winter.
