> Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr unveils a new initiative to reduce children's daily online usage and promote offline activities.

Education Minister [Christoph Wiederkehr](<https://austriareport.com/entity/christoph-wiederkehr-q22570073>) has launched a new awareness campaign targeting children's screen time. Following a Wednesday roundtable with education, health, and youth experts, the ministry unveiled posters with the slogan "The best connection is offline."

Data shows youth spend 4.5 hours online daily on weekdays. Pediatrician **Klaus Vavrik** warns social media is designed to be addictive, potentially causing language delays and reduced impulse control. He recommends no screen time for children under three years old.

The initiative involves the [Health Ministry](<https://austriareport.com/entity/ministry-of-social-affairs-health-care-and-consumer-protection-q1006368>), **Digitalization Secretariat**, and Safer Internet. While schools already ban phones for students under 14, Wiederkehr now supports age limits for social media and is discussing a student phone experiment with the [ORF](<https://austriareport.com/entity/orf-broadcaster-q262386>).
