The Vienna SPÖ state party convened this Saturday as Mayor Michael Ludwig met with presidium members and district chairpersons. Ludwig announced a uniform line and a strong vote from the Vienna branch ahead of a critical meeting scheduled for the following day.
The Vienna SPÖ has reached a formal position that Andreas Babler must resign as party leader and Vice Chancellor. Approximately three-quarters of the Vienna districts favor Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer as his successor, while one-quarter support Zeiler.
Insiders suggest a party congress could occur in January at the earliest. Babler is reportedly prepared to step down, with potential future roles being considered as a member of parliament or a managing director position at the Volkshilfe organization.
