# Vienna Starts First Low Traffic Grätzl in Meidling

Construction has begun on **Vienna**'s first Low Traffic Grätzl in the **Meidling** district, specifically the area bounded by Längenfeldgasse, Steinbauergasse, Siebertgasse, and Arndtstraße. A section of **Wolfganggasse** is being converted into a pedestrian zone.

City Councilor **Ulli Sima** and District Chairman **Wilfried Zankl** noted the project uses diagonal filters and repurposed concrete containers to limit through traffic. Residents and emergency vehicles retain access, while one-way rules are adjusted for cyclists.

Modeled after London's Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, this initiative includes 50,000 euros in city funding per district. Officials aim for every district to have a similar zone by 2030, with Mariahilf and Alsergrund among those currently planning projects.
