# Vienna Taxi Drivers Fined at Schwechat Airport

Police conducted a major enforcement operation at **Vienna International Airport** in late October 2025, targeting taxi drivers for licensing violations. Several Vienna-based drivers were fined because their permits did not include authorization for **Schwechat**.

Austrian law requires drivers, including those from **Uber** and **Bolt**, to prove local knowledge for their specific municipality. While Vienna drivers must navigate from Hotel Sacher to Schönbrunn without GPS, they cannot pick up passengers in Schwechat.

Recent court rulings confirm local knowledge requirements apply even to pre-booked trips. With 25 distinct taxi regions in Lower Austria alone, the **Vienna Taxi Guild** is now warning drivers about strict police enforcement regarding regional boundaries.
