Vienna-Währing district leadership, led by Silvia Nossek, has unveiled final redesign plans for Aumannplatz following a two-year citizen participation process. The project focuses on calming the multi-lane roundabout and closing large sections to car traffic.
The redesign connects the square to a new pedestrian zone featuring seating, a water feature, and 25 new trees alongside existing ones. About 450 square meters will be unsealed, utilizing light-colored paving, new lighting, and a permanent toilet facility.
While the plan improves safety for pedestrians and tram users, the ÖVP and some residents oppose it, citing traffic congestion concerns on Gentzgasse. Despite a petition and protests, officials state the changes are supported by recent traffic count data.
