Westfield Shopping City Süd in Vösendorf, Lower Austria, marks nearly five decades of operation since its 1976 opening. Modeled after U.S. shopping centers, the site debuted with a brass band and 100 shops, later adding Austria's first Ikea store in 1977.
Operated by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, the center now spans 200,000 square meters with 300 shops and 60 eateries. While brands like Quelle and Carrefour have left, new additions like Normal and Virgin Active are coming, alongside expanded Mango and New Yorker stores.
Head of Central Europe Paul Douay confirms there are no plans to expand the physical area of the massive complex. With 10,000 parking spaces, the SCS remains a retail landmark, though Managing Director Rainer Will notes the evolving mix of modern tenants.
