60% of Austrians Use AI for Health Queries

A Gallup survey shows a surge in AI health use as satisfaction with the national healthcare system drops and specialist shortages grow.

A 2026 Gallup Institute survey of 1,000 Austrians for Wiener Städtische Versicherung reveals that 60% of citizens now use Artificial Intelligence for health queries. Users primarily utilize AI to check symptoms, explain findings, and verify medications.

While 38% find AI helpful, trust remains low compared to professionals. Only 13% trust AI over doctors, while 52% favor family physicians. Meanwhile, national health satisfaction fell to 47%, with 71% of respondents citing a shortage of specialist doctors.

Declining public health satisfaction has led 33% of respondents to show increased interest in private insurance. As 27% report worsening physical health, 58% now support outpatient clinic fees to deter non-essential hospital visits amid long wait times.
