Ardo Austria Frost GmbH announced it will close its production and packaging plant in Gross-Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, by 2027. The closure impacts 190 permanent employees and 50 temporary workers, though sales and internal sales staff will remain unaffected.
Plant manager Christian Karwen cited the need for significant investment in utilities and warehousing alongside limited cost competitiveness. The facility, which supplies Iglo and major retailers like Hofer and Billa, will continue production until December 2026.
The move affects 300 Marchfeld farmers who supply peas and spinach. Starting August 2027, Ardo will shift focus to Austrian sales using goods from other plants. A social plan is being developed for the 190 staff members losing their jobs at the facility.
