Austria Adjusts DZM Police Working Time Model

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner modifies the DZM pilot program to include voluntary 24-hour shifts and address officer wage concerns.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner has announced significant adjustments to the DZM police working time model currently being piloted in Linz, Bregenz, Leibnitz, Gänserndorf, and Wien-Brigittenau. The changes follow concerns regarding potential wage losses.

Karner agreed to adopt proposals from the Christian Trade Unionists (FCG) to retain 24-hour shifts on a voluntary basis. The union seeks four such shifts per month, while the duty planning deadline has been moved to the 25th for the following month.

These modifications, effective this November, address Governor Thomas Stelzer's advocacy against the original plan. Further negotiations with personnel representatives are scheduled to ensure the new structure maintains officer pay and operational needs.
