Austria Unveils Zukunftsdepot Investment Model

The Austrian government launches a tax-free investment account for children featuring a 500-euro start bonus and annual deposit limits.

The government released a draft for the Zukunftsdepot investment model on October 30, 2026, with a launch set for July 1, 2027. Children born on or after January 1, 2027, will receive a 500-euro start bonus funded by the Family Burden Equalization Fund.

Eligible minors must maintain 15 years of residency to keep the bonus. The accounts feature a 5,000-euro annual deposit limit and are exempt from capital gains tax until age 18. Investments are restricted to broad and to ensure stability.

This initiative aims to build long-term wealth, with the state budgeting 40 million euros annually for bonuses. By prohibiting account fees and capping costs at one percent, the government seeks to maximize returns for the next generation of Austrian citizens.
