Corruption Probe Hits Vienna Immigration Office

Vienna's MA 35 authority faces audits and staff departures following allegations of bribery for accelerated citizenship procedures.

's immigration and citizenship authority, MA 35, is under intense scrutiny following corruption investigations and house searches at its Dresdner Strasse headquarters. Allegations suggest accelerated procedures were granted in exchange for cash.

The department faces audits by the Ombudsman Board and the City Court of Audit. One employee was held in custody, and a supervisor was dismissed. A former staffer cited poor morale and a lack of leadership as 57 people have left the department this year.

Despite the turmoil, MA 35 maintains 867 employees, including 94 part-time workers. With 23 voluntary departures and six retirements since January, the agency now aims to fill 23 open positions by year-end to stabilize its essential municipal operations.
